Peer Ministry
University Lutheran reaches out to the local colleges with the help of Peer Ministers. What do Peer Ministers do? Make sure students get all the information they need about events at church and through the Lutheran Student Movement. They work with Pastor Harte to plan activities and worship and make sure the students have a voice. We currently have three peer ministers, two at the University of Pennsylvania and one at Drexel.
Beth Burke, Graduate Peer Minister at Penn

Beth is a fifth year graduate student at Penn, going for a PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology with an emphasis on Cell Growth and Cancer. But don't let that fool you, she can still play a convincing undergrad, fooling even those with the best grad-dar. While she's not energetically bouncing around the lab studying chronic myelogenous leukemia (and trying not to spill things, as beakers are not conducive to bouncing), she enjoys playing board games and ultimate frisbee, and making things out of duct tape.
She spent her undergraduate life in the snowy hills of Syracuse, perfecting Martin Luther's art of sinning boldly Saturday night and praying hard Sunday morning with her fellow Lutherans at Hendrick's Chapel. There she was the Peer Minister of Information, putting together the Lutheran Campus Ministry website, and editing newsletters. The web design skills have come in handy once again as she is now both the regional webmistress for the Mid-Atlantic Lutheran Student Movement, as well as the national webmistress for the whole shebang.
Josh Kelly, Undergraduate Peer Minister at Drexel
I am a 5th year (out of six!) architecture student at Drexel University. Because of the program, I take all my classes at night, and I work full time during the day at an architecture firm. I work in the University City area, right off of Lancaster Ave. I really enjoy being a Lutheran, and a part of this SEPA synod, and the global Lutheran community. My activities include being a peer minister for Drexel (duh that is why this bio is on here), I serve on Synod Council, I am somewhat active is AIAS (American Institute of Architecture Students), and I teach Sunday school and VBS at my home church for youths in 6th-8th grades. I am also in my church's praise band, Second Chance. My interests are pretty diverse (at least I think so) and I like skiing, tennis, reading, ALL movies, MOST music, the beach, camping, social gatherings, and building things. I have no siblings, was born in 1984 in Chestnut Hill hospital. My home town is Quakertown, PA, and my home church is St. John's Richlandtown Lutheran church. I am left-handed, right-brained and politically in the middle. I think that is all the important stuff. Email me if you would like more info! May God bless you as much as he has blessed me!
