Our pastor for nearly 10 years, the Rev. Barry J. Harte, accepted a call to a congregation in New Jersey. We are in the process of calling a new pastor.
Our congregation is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), which is the largest Lutheran denomination in the United States. The re-formation of the Church, led by Martin Luther, gave us our name. We need to hear again and again of God's deep love at the heart of all things, a love for all people and a longing for reciprocal love. In Jesus's life we see this love, encouraging us to value not the prizes of the world but rather the opportunity to live in relationship with God. Learn more about the Lutheran denomination in The Lutheran, the magazine of the ELCA. You also can word-search the Bible (or read it in its entirety!) on-line.
Lutherans see themselves as evangelical (preaching the Good News of Jesus Christ), catholic (part of the universal tradition of the Church), and orthodox (affirming the creeds and confessions of Christians through the ages). Our life together is centered on grace and the gifts of God's word and the sacraments: baptism and the Eucharist (Holy Communion).
