The Gospel reading for Sunday, August 21, 2016 (Luke 13:10-17) speaks of wholeness and healing. We hear how Jesus heals a woman on the Sabbath, offering her a new beginning for her life. When challenged by a narrow reading of the Sabbath command, Jesus responds by explaining "Sabbath work" to include setting people free from bondage. In that spirit, our 10:30 AM liturgy on Sunday, August 21st will include a Rite of Healing—the laying on of hands, and prayers for the wholeness and well being of all in body, mind, and spirit.
Almighty and merciful God, we implore you to hear the prayers of your people. Be our strong defense against all harm and danger, that we may live and grow in faith and hope, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen
