![]() Sunday Morning Worship: The Service of Holy Communion begins at 10:30 a.m. UniLu uses the newest Lutheran hymnal, Evangelical Lutheran Worship (2006). We use almost all of the various settings for the liturgy from ELW, changing settings as the church year changes. Visit the Worship page to learn more about our service. We hear God's Word; we pray; we sing; we laugh. Sunday services average a little over an hour in length, with special feast day services lasting somewhat longer. Fellowship Hour: We gather for refreshments and conversation each Sunday after worship. Please plan to join us as your schedule allows. Evening Prayer: Each Tuesday when clean-up is completed after Feast Incarnate, volunteers and guests gather around the font for a service of hymns and prayer. The service usually begins between 6:15 and 6:30 p.m., and lasts about a half-hour. Thursday Mid-day Eucharist: Each Thursday at 10 past noon, we gather to commemorate the saints of the church and to celebrate Holy Communion. The service lasts about a half-hour, and is often attended by students and university staff. |
![]() Communion: Communion is celebrated every Sunday and on Thursdays at 10 past noon. You may stand or kneel at the rail, extending your hand for the bread. Receive the wine by taking and sipping from the cup, or dip the bread into the wine (intinction). Non-alcoholic grape juice is also available and is offered when you take an individual glass from the front pew. Gluten-free wafers are available as well. Please inform the pastor or the verger (person who sets up the service) if you need one. After receiving the elements, return to your seat as you wish. If you do not wish to receive the bread and wine, you may participate by coming to the altar and folding your arms to receive a blessing.
Music: Our Interim Director of Music, Douglas Barclay, is a gifted musician. Hymns play a major part in how we respond to God’s Word. Many members will sing harmony when singing hymns. Others are less musically gifted, but together we always make beautiful music. We remember the words of St. Augustine, who said, “He who sings prays twice.” Offering: You are not expected to give anything when the offering plate is passed. In fact, we believe that your visit is a gift. We only ask that you give us your name and email address (there are welcome cards to fill out located in the pew racks) so that we can keep in touch. |
![]() Children: Children of all ages are welcome to worship with you. At present we do not have a nursery during worship services. There are activity kits for youngsters which the verger can provide for you.
What to Wear: Our dress code is casual. You'll see sport coats, jeans, pants and skirts - and even shorts in the summertime. Please note our sanctuary is air-conditioned. We don't care what you wear, just that you join us. Parking: UniLu has a parking lot, which is located behind the church on Ludlow Street, halfway between 36th and 37th Sts. The lot is surrounded by a low brick wall. From the parking lot, walk to your right down two steps and follow the walk to our front doors. If you are coming from public transportation or after parking on the streets (don’t forget to feed the meter), our front doors face 37th Street walk. |
